# AUDIO SCRIPT
## Lesson 3C
**AUDIO TRACK 1**
(1) Hello. Open your book to the activities for Lesson 3C. (pause 6 seconds)
(2) Look at Figure 1. Listen to the words in the box and repeat. (pause for repetition)

(3) Look at the dialogs and listen.
(2 voices: voice 1, female; voice 2, male)
voice 1: Could you please do me a favor?
voice 2: Yes, of course.
voice 1: Can you give me a ride home this afternoon?
voice 2: I sure can.
voice 1: Would you take a message for me, please?
voice 2: I'll be glad to.
voice 1: Will you tell Mr. Rogers that I called?
voice 2: I certainly will.
(4) Listen to the dialogs again. Write the words you hear in the blanks. (pause 5 seconds after each dialog)
Number 1: voice 1: Could you please do me a favor?
voice 2: Yes, of course.
Number 2: voice 1: Can you give me a ride home this afternoon?
voice 2: I sure can.
Number 3: voice 1: Would you take a message for me, please?
voice 2: I'll be glad to.
Number 4: voice 1: Will you tell Mr. Rogers that I called?

(5) Now check your answers. (pause for repetition)
Number 1 is could. Repeat: Could you please do me a favor? / Yes, of course.
Number 2 is can. Repeat: Can you give me a ride home this afternoon? / I sure can.
Number 3 is would. Repeat: Would you take a message for me, please? / I'll be glad to.
Number 4 is will. Repeat: Will you tell Mr. Rogers that I called? / I certainly will.

(6) Look at Figure 2. Listen to the dialog.
(2 voices: female)
voice 1: Could you do me a favor?
voice 2: Certainly. What do you need?

(7) Now let's read the dialog together. You read Ann's lines. I'll read Mary's lines. (pause for student to read voice 2; see above)

voice 1: Would you let me buy your lunch tomorrow?

(8) Please go to Figure 3. Look at the examples and listen.

(9) Now listen to the sentence and change it to a polite question. (pause 4 seconds after each cue word; pause for repetition)

Number 3: Fill out this form. could (pause 4 sec)

(10) Look at Figure 4 now. Listen to the questions from the last exercise, then give the complete answer. First look at the answers and repeat. (pause for repetition)

(11) Now look at the examples and listen. (pause 3 seconds between the examples)

(12) Let's begin the exercise. (pause 3 seconds after each question; pause for repetition)

Number 3: Listen: Could you please fill out this form? (pause 3 sec)

(13) Look at the questions in Figure 5. Next listen to a conversation. Then answer the questions. Read the questions now. (pause 20 sec for students to read questions)
(2 voices: male)
voice 1: Good morning. May I help you?
voice 2: No, thank you. I'm just looking.
voice 1: Did you see our new fall suits?
voice 2: No, I didn't. Where are they?
voice 1: Right here by the shirts and sweaters.
voice 2: Oh, I see. They look very nice.
voice 1: When you want to try one on, tell me. My name is Charles.
voice 2: All right. Thanks.
(14) Now listen to the conversation again. Then answer the questions.
voice 1: Good morning. May I help you?
voice 2: No, thank you. I'm just looking.
voice 1: Did you see our new fall suits?
voice 2: No, I didn't. Where are they?
voice 1: Right here by the shirts and sweaters.
voice 2: Oh, I see. They look very nice.
voice 1: When you want to try one on, tell me. My name is Charles.
voice 2: All right. Thanks.
(15) Now answer the questions. (pause 5 seconds after each question; pause for repetition)
Number 1: Where are the men? (pause)
Repeat: They're in a clothing store.
Number 2: Does the customer want to buy anything right now? (pause)
Repeat: No, he's just looking.
Number 3: What is the clerk's name? (pause)
Repeat: The clerk's name is Charles.
Number 4: Where are the fall suits? (pause)
Repeat: They're by the shirts and sweaters.
Number 5: What did the customer say about the suits? (pause)
Repeat: He said that they looked very nice.

(16) Look at Figure 6 and listen to the words. Circle the number of the syllable with the strong stress. Look at the example and listen.

The answer is 3. The third syllable has the strong stress.

(17) Now begin the exercise. Listen and circle the number. (stress syllables in caps; pause 4 seconds between items)

Ted drives his car a lot. His car is two years old, and his tires are too. The car looks good, but the tires don't. He has to put air in his tires often. When the streets are wet, Ted can't stop his car quickly. Now he's afraid to drive in bad weather, and he's tired of flat tires.
(20) Listen to paragraph number 1 again. (read at normal speed)

(21) Now write the main idea of the paragraph. (pause 15 seconds)
(22) The main idea of the paragraph is: Ted needs new tires. or The tires on his car are bad. Both sentences are correct. You might use different words in your sentence, but the idea should be about the same.
(23) Now listen to paragraph number 2. (read at normal speed)
Maria has to go to the mall today, but she doesn't want to. She's afraid of heavy traffic and crowded parking lots, and she likes small stores better than large stores. The clerks at the mall never seem to see her. They always help others first. All of Maria's friends like the mall, and she can't understand it.
(24) Listen to paragraph number 2 again. (read at normal speed)
Maria has to go to the mall today, but she doesn't want to. She's afraid of heavy traffic and crowded parking lots, and she likes small stores better than large stores. (25) Now write the main idea of the paragraph on Line 2. (pause 15 seconds) The main idea is: Maria doesn't like to go to the mall. You can also say that she doesn't enjoy shopping in the mall.
