(1) Hello. Open your book to the activities for Lesson 3D.

(2) Look at Figure 1. Listen to the dialogs.
Number 1:

(6) Turn to Figure 3 and listen. (pause slightly before beginning narration)
Mrs. Hill talks a lot. Her husband John and her son Billy don't always listen to her. Sometimes they're reading or watching TV. Other times they're just thinking about something else.
(7) Look at the dialogs and listen to Mrs. Hill. (pause slightly) Then you be Mr. Hill or Billy and ask or answer a question. (pause slightly) Listen and complete the conversation. (pause as marked; pause for repetition)
(3 voices: voice 1, female; voices 2 and 3, male)
Number 1: voice 1: Billy, hang up your coat. Ask Billy's question.

voice 2: Repeat: What did she say to do?

(8) Go to Figure 4. Read the questions. (pause 15 sec) Now listen to a conversation two times. Then answer the questions in your book.

voice 1: I'm glad you're driving, Sam. I'm lost.
voice 2: When did you move away from here, Dan?
voice 1: Seven years ago. Silver City has really changed a lot in that time.
voice 2: Yes, it has. There are more people and a lot of new buildings.
voice 1: What's that large place on the right?
voice 2: That's the Silver Star Mall. Do you want to eat lunch there?
voice 1: Yes, I certainly do. I'll only be here for five days, and I want to see everything.
(9) Listen to the conversation again.
voice 1: I'm glad you're driving, Sam. I'm lost.

(10) Now answer the questions. Say the answers only. Don't write. (pause 4 seconds after each question; pause for repetition)
Number 1: Who's driving the car? (pause 4 sec)
Repeat: Sam is driving the car.
Number 2: What city are Dan and Sam in? (pause 4 sec)
Repeat: They're in Silver City.
Number 3: When did Sam move away from there? (pause 4 sec)
Repeat: He moved away 7 years ago.
Number 4: Where will Dan and Sam eat lunch? (pause 4 sec)
Repeat: They'll eat lunch at the Silver Star Mall.
### AUDIO TRACK 12
(11) Look at Figure 5. Look at the names of buildings in Silver City. (pause 10 sec) Now listen. When you hear the name of a building, write the letter next to the name of the building. Listen.
When Dan returned to Silver City for the first time in seven years, he realized there were a lot of changes. He decided to rent a car at the airport. He called his friend Sam and asked for directions to his house. Sam told him to take Airport Road into town, "The Landmark Hotel will be on your left just before you get to Highway 50." (pause 4 seconds)
(12) Write the letter <u>E</u> next to Number 1. The Landmark Hotel is building <u>E</u>. Now listen to Sam's directions and write the letter of each building next to the correct name when you hear it.
On the southeast corner of Airport Road and Highway 50, you will see the Silver Star Mall. (pause 5 sec) You turn north at that corner onto Highway 50 and you go one block to Easy Street. The Silver Dollar Restaurant will be on the northwest corner. (pause 5 sec) You turn east on Easy Street. The New Money Bank will be on your right in that first block. (pause 5 sec) The next street will be First Street. After you've crossed First Street, the Sure-Care Clinic will be on the left and the City Library will be on the other side of the street. (pause 5 sec) Turn north at the next corner onto Second Street. The high school gym will be on your right. (pause 5 sec) You'll cross High Street and see the old post office on the right. (pause 5 sec) Stay on 2nd Street and go out of downtown. My address is 2024 2nd St. I hope you won't get lost."
(13) Listen again and fill in any missing letters. (read at normal speed) Listen.
When Dan returned to Silver City for the first time in seven years, he realized there were a lot of changes. He decided to rent a car at the airport. (14) Now check your answers.
