She gave the students thermometers and told them to hold the thermometers under their tongues for a few minutes. Then she took the thermometers and looked at them. Maria's thermometer said 98 point 6 degrees Fahrenheit, or 37 degrees Celsius. That temperature is all right. Someone with a temperature higher than 98 point 6 has a fever. (10) Look at Maria's thermometer. What is her temperature? (pause 2 sec) It's ninety-eight point six. Does she have a fever? (pause 2 sec) No, she doesn't. Repeat: Maria doesn't have a fever. (11) Now listen and look at the other thermometers. When you hear a student's temperature, write it on his or her thermometer. When the nurse looked at the other thermometers, this is what she learned: (pause 6 sec after each sentence) Steve had a temperature of a hundred degrees. (pause 6 sec) Allen's temperature was ninety-eight point two degrees. Sally's temperature was ninety-nine point five. David had a temperature of one hundred and three degrees. (12) Listen again and check the temperatures. (pause 3 sec after each sentence) Steve had a temperature of a hundred degrees. (pause 3 sec) Allen's temperature was ninety-eight point two degrees. Sally's temperature was ninety-nine point five. David had a temperature of one hundred and three degrees. --- (13) Which students had fevers? Put a check beside their names. (pause 10 sec) Three students had fevers. They were Steve, Sally, and David. Now look at the thermometers and answer these questions. (pause 5 sec after each question) Whose fever was the highest? (pause 5 sec) Repeat: David's fever was the highest. Who had the lowest temperature? Repeat: Allen had the lowest temperature. What was the highest temperature? Repeat: The highest temperature was one hundred and three. What was Steve's temperature? Repeat: Steve's temperature was one hundred degrees. What was Sally's temperature? Repeat: Sally's temperature was ninety-nine point five. **AUDIO TRACK 4** (14) Now look at Figure 4. Look at the pictures and repeat the words under the pictures.
