(1) Hello. Open your book to the activities for Lesson 2D. (pause 6 sec)
(2) Look at Figure 1. Listen and repeat the connective words in the box. after...after that finally first last next then
(3) Now look at the example. Listen to a paragraph. Listen for a connective word. Listen: Ned is going to study. First, he gets his books. Then he fixes his light. Finally he starts to study.
(4) Now listen to paragraph number 1 and write the connective words when you hear them. (read paragraphs at normal speed)
Number 1: Jill wanted to shop in the mall. First, she went upstairs to a clothing store. Then she decided to go to the variety store. After that, she went downstairs to the shoe shop. Finally, she went to the department store and finished her shopping.

I don't like this vending machine. It never has my favorite soda. It's a popular drink, but this machine doesn't have it. That other one usually has my favorite, but it's out of it today. Now I have to make another selection, and I don't like the diet drinks in this machine. But, I'm thirsty, so I'll drop my money in the slot and pull the knob. I guess I'll have to drink another kind of soda today.
(19) Now listen again and complete the sentences with the words you hear. (read slowly; pause 6 sec at each slash)
