(4) Now look at Figure 2. Read the words in the box. (pause 10 sec) Listen to the sentences and write the missing word in the blank. Choose one of the words in the box. Let's do the example together. (pause after each question for students to write a word; pause for repetition)

A barber. The word "barber" is in the blank. (pause 5 sec)

(7) Now you'll hear eight sentences. Some of the sentences have the word "both." Some of the sentences have the word "other." Put an X under the word you hear in the sentence. Listen to the example. (pause 3 sec after each item)
Example: Mary put on her other glove. (pause) The answer is other. Put an X under the word "other." Now listen to the sentence and put an X under both or other.
Number 1: Don't lock the other door.
Number 2: Both stores sell men's clothes.

(15) Now listen to the paragraph and circle the information you do not hear. (read slowly with a 2 count pause at the end of each sentence)
Bob and Dave didn't have classes last week. They wanted to take a vacation. On Monday they drove to a big city near the ocean and stopped at a hotel. There were a lot of people at the hotel. The hotel didn't have a room for Bob and Dave. All the other hotels in the city were crowded too. Bob and Dave had to stay in their car overnight.

(17) Listen to the paragraph again and check your answer. (read slowly)
Bob and Dave didn't have classes last week. They wanted to take a vacation. On Monday they drove to a big city near the ocean and stopped at a hotel. There were a lot of people at the hotel.
