(1) Hello. Open your booklet to the activities for Lesson 3B. (pause 6 sec)

(2) Look at Figure 1. These are animals. Repeat: animals...animals. Number 1 is a dog. Number 2 is a bird. Number 3 is a cat. Listen and write the names of the animals under the pictures.

Number 1: dog, d-o-g

Number 3: cat, c-a-t

(3) Now look at the names and repeat them. (pause for repetition)

(8) Okay. Look at Figure 4. Look at the pictures and listen.

Ben and Sue Fox live next to Jim and Pat Day. The Day's backyard is next to the Fox's backyard. There is a fence between the two backyards. Sue and Pat are standing by the fence. Ben and Jim are standing by the gate. In one back yard, the children are eating. In the other backyard, a young boy and girl are playing, and an older boy is cutting the grass. A very young child is sitting by the back door of the Day's house.

(9) Now look at the numbers under the picture. Listen to questions. Circle yes or no. (pause 8 seconds after each question)

Number 1: Is there a front yard in the picture?

Number 2: Is Sue Fox standing by the fence?

Number 3: Is Pat Day standing by the fence too?

Number 4: Are Pat and Sue on the same side of the fence?

(10) Listen and check your answers. (pause for repetition)

Number 1 is no. Repeat: Is there a front yard in the picture? / No, this is a picture of two backyards.

Number 2 is yes. Repeat: Is Sue Fox standing by the fence? / Yes, Sue Fox is standing by the fence.

Number 3 is yes. Repeat: Is Pat Day standing by the fence, too? / Yes, Pat Day is standing by the fence, too.

Number 4 is no. Repeat: Are Pat and Sue on the same side of the fence? / No, Pat and Sue are on opposite sides of the fence.

Number 5 is yes. Repeat: Are Ben and Jim standing next to the gate? / Yes, Ben and Jim are standing next to the gate.

Number 6 is no. Repeat: Is the gate open? / No, the gate's not open. It's closed.

Number 7 is no. Repeat: Is a dog sitting by the door? / No, a small child / is sitting by the door, not a dog. / A dog is sitting next to the table.

Number 8 is yes. Repeat: Is there a cat in the picture? / Yes, there's a cat near the table.

(11) Now look at Figure 5. Listen to the sentences and add or subtract the numbers. Then answer the questions. Let's do the example in Figure 5 first.

Bill is twenty years old. Ken is two years younger. How old is Ken? (pause 4 sec) Eighteen is the answer. Twenty minus two equals eighteen. Repeat: Ken is eighteen years old. Now let's do the exercise. (pause 4 sec after each question)

Number 1: John is ten. Mary is three years older. How old is Mary? Repeat: Mary is thirteen years old.

Number 2: Lisa is sixteen. Her sister is five years younger. How old is her sister? Repeat: Her sister is eleven.

Number 3: Betty is twenty years old. Steve is five years older. How old is Steve? Repeat: Steve is twenty-five years old.

Number 4: Two years from now, Larry will be 21. How old is Larry? Repeat: Larry is nineteen years old.

Number 5: Frank bought his car two years ago. It was four years old then. How old is it now? Repeat: It's six years old.

Number 6: Mr. and Mrs. Baker were twenty-five years old ten years ago. How old are they now? Repeat: They're thirty-five years old.

(12) Look at Figure 6. Listen to the underlined words and repeat them. (pause for repetition)
