AUDIO TRACK 1
(1) Hello! Open your book to the activities for Lesson 1C. (pause 6 sec)
(2) Look at Figure 1. Listen and repeat. (allow time for students to repeat words and sentences)
Number 1: lost...lost Diane can't find her wallet. (pause) It's lost.
Number 2: wallet...wallet Diane's ID card, money, and bank card were in her wallet.
Number 3: immediately...immediately Diane didn't wait to go to the bank; (pause) she went to the bank immediately.
Number 4: close an account...close an account Diane needed to close an account.
Number 5: take out of...take out of Diane needed to take her money out of her account.
Number 6: withdraw...withdraw Diane wanted her money. (pause) She had to withdraw it.
Number 7: withdrawal...withdrawal Diane made a withdrawal. (pause) She took money out of her account.
Number 8: slip...slip Diane filled out a small piece of paper. (pause) She filled out a withdrawal slip.
Number 9: complete...complete Diane had to fill out the withdrawal slip. (pause) She had to complete it.

(3) Listen to a paragraph about Diane and her wallet.
Diane can't find her wallet. She thinks she lost it. In her wallet she had some money, her ID card, and the numbers to her bank account. Diane didn't wait to go to the bank; she went to the bank immediately. She told the bank clerk, "I need to close my account. Do I have to take all my money out of the bank?" The clerk told her, "No, ma'am, you don't. You can close your account by withdrawing all your money. Then you can put that money in a different account with a different number." The clerk gave her a withdrawal slip and said, "Please complete this form and sign your name right here on the bottom line."

(4) Look at Figure 2. Listen and repeat.
Number 1: spent...spent Sandy spent her money. She bought new clothes.
Number 2: spend...spend Jane saved her money. She didn't spend it.
Number 3: hide...hide Jane wanted to hide the wallet from Sandy. She didn't want Sandy to find it.
Number 4: hid...hid Sandy can't find her wallet because Jane hid it.
Number 5: soon...soon Their vacation will begin soon. It'll begin in a short time.
(5) Listen to a paragraph about Jane and Sandy.
Two sisters, Jane and Sandy, are going on vacation together in a few days. They're saving their money, but it's very hard for Sandy. She likes to buy new clothes. Last week she spent a lot of money. Jane is upset because she thinks Sandy will spend all her money before their vacation. One day she saw Sandy's wallet on the table. She thought, "Without her wallet, she can't spend all her money. I think I'll hide it from her. Then she'll have to save some money." Jane hid the wallet under Sandy's bed. Sandy didn't find it for several days. At first, she was angry. She asked Jane, "Why did you hide my wallet?" Jane said, "Our vacation will start soon. You needed to save your money. Now, you can go because you didn't spend it all." Sandy said, "You're right. I needed to save. Thanks for the help, but next time, please tell me about it."

(6) Look at Figure 3. Repeat this dialog between a bank clerk and a customer. (one male voice, one female voice) (allow students time to repeat each line)

(7) Now listen again and you take the role of the customer. Read the sentences in your book. (allow time for students to reply)

(8) Look at Figure 4. You will hear a sentence one time. Select the best response. Write the letter of the response in the blank.
Number 1: I'd like to make a withdrawal from my savings account. (pause 4 sec) The correct response is "b." Repeat: Did you fill out a withdrawal slip?
Number 2: I put $300, my name, address, and date on this withdrawal slip. Do I need anything more?. (pause 4 sec) The correct response is "a." Repeat: Yes, please put your signature on the bottom line.
Number 3: I also want to close my checking account. Where can I do that? (pause 4 sec) The correct response is "c." Repeat: I can do that for you. Please complete this form.

(9) Look at Figure 5. First listen to a paragraph. Then listen to it again and write the answers on the bank forms.
Today is the tenth of July. Mary Green has to pay her rent. First, she needs to put some money in her checking account. She goes to the bank and deposits six hundred dollars in cash in her checking account. Then later this afternoon, she will pay her rent with a check.
(10) Listen again and fill in the bank deposit slip with the correct information.

(12) Look at the three bank forms in Figure 6. (pause) Now, look at form 1 and listen to the paragraph. Then, listen to the paragraph again and complete the blanks with the information from the paragraph.
