(1) Hello. Open your books to the activities for Lesson 2D. (pause 6 sec)

(2) Look at Figure 1. Look at the pictures and repeat the following sentences. (pause for repetition)

Picture A: The children are on the bus behind the truck.

Picture B: The truck driver is facing the bright afternoon sun.

Picture C: They must park across from the school.

Picture D: The bicycle is in back of that small car.

Picture E: Fred is in the car in front of the police car.

Picture F: Someone left their light blue car by the lake.

Picture G: His dark car hit the light pole.

(3) Look at Figure 1 again. Listen to each sentence. Write the correct number under the picture being described. The first one is done as an example. Listen and find the correct picture.

Number 1: Jim is driving in front of the policeman. (pause 4 sec)

(4) Number 1 goes under picture E. Let's do the rest.

Number 2: Tom's mother parked her car across from the school.

Number 3: There was a light colored car parked by the lake.

Number 4: The school bus is behind the truck.

Number 5: That dark car ran into the light pole.

Number 6: The bicycle was in back of the small car at the stop light.

Number 7: That big truck was facing the sun in the afternoon traffic.

(5) Now check your answers, and repeat the correct answers.

(6) Look at Figure 2. Listen to the following short dialogs. Then answer the questions on the dialog. You will hear the dialogs twice. The first one is done as an example.

(three voices, two male, 1 female (the question voice is male))
(pause after each question for students to answer)

[female voice] Jimmy, tell Joanne to come in now.
[male voice] Joanne, come in now.
[voice 3] What did Jimmy tell Joanne? Repeat: He told Joanne to come in.

(7) Listen and answer the other questions. Then repeat the correct answers. (pause as indicated; also for student to repeat the correct response)

Number 1: Listen.

[female voice] Harry, tell Mike to help you move the bookcase.
[male voice] Mike, help me move the bookcase.
[voice 3] What did Harry tell Mike to do? (pause 7 sec)
Repeat: He told him to help him move the bookcase.

Number 2: Listen.

[male voice] Captain Jones, tell Sgt Jackson to bring the student record to my office.
[female voice] Sgt Jackson, take the student record to Major Johnson's office.
[voice 3] What did Captain Jones tell Sgt Jackson? (pause 5 sec) Repeat: She told him to bring the student record to the major's office.

(9) Check your answers and repeat the correct answers.

[voice 1] Sergeant Wilson, where is Captain Russell?

[voice 2] He's in Colonel Smith's office, Lt Jackson.

[voice 1] He has a long distance phone call.

[voice 2] I'll get him right away.

Why is Lt Jackson looking for Captain Russell? (pause for 40 sec for student to write answer)

Repeat: Because Capt Russell has a long distance phone call.

Number 2: Listen.

(dialog 2, two voices, both male)

[voice 1] Lt Kline, I'm looking for Major Billings.

[voice 2] I haven't seen him, sir.

[voice 1] I want to take him to lunch. He took me one day last week.

[voice 2] Well, Major Johnson, he should be back in about thirty minutes.

[voice 1] Ask him to call me when he comes in.

[voice 2] Yes, sir, I will.

Why is Major Johnson looking for Major Billings? (pause for 30 sec for student to write answer)

Repeat: He wants to take him to lunch.
