In most of the U.S., people add an hour to the time every April and subtract an hour every October. Last Saturday, Tim read that the time was going to change on Sunday at 1:00 a.m. But he forgot that he had to change his watch and alarm clock. Tim got up Monday morning and saw that the time was 6:30. He knew he had to leave right away. On the road to the base, Tim realized that there wasn't much traffic. He hoped that there wasn't a problem on the road. Tim turned on the car radio and heard that the time was only 6:00 a.m. He learned that he was early, not late. Then Tim remembered that the time was an hour earlier now.

(1) Open your Language Laboratory Activities Booklet to Lesson 4C. (pause 5 sec)
(2) Look at Figure 1. Listen to a statement and choose a statement which has a similar meaning. Listen to the example:
He really wants to go to the movies. The answer is b. "He wants to go to the movies very much" is the sentence that has a similar meaning.
Now listen and circle the correct answer. (pause 10 seconds at the end of each statement)

He paid by check. Then he went to the grocery store and bought some food for thirty-three dollars and fifty cents. He also paid by check. How much money does George have left in his checking account?
Listen to the first problem again and write the numbers.

There are two kinds of telephone calls: local calls and long-distance calls. When you make a call in the same city, you make a local call. When you call someone in another city, another state or another country, you make a long distance call. Long distance calls can be person-to-person calls or station-to-station calls. When you want to talk to one person only, you make a person-to-person call. When you will talk to anyone who answers, you make a station-to-station call.
