(1) Hello.
(2) Open your books to the activities for Lesson 1D. (pause 6 sec)
(3) Look at Figure 1. Listen to a dialog and take notes. Listen carefully to the "if" part of the sentence. You will hear the dialog three times. Then you will hear questions. Use your notes to answer the questions. Ready? (pause 15 sec after each dialog)
(two voices, both male)
voice 1: There's a soccer game at three-thirty today, and we need another player, Roger. voice 2: If I finish my homework, I might be able to play. voice 1: Start on your homework right after class. voice 2: Okay, I will. But if I play, I'll have to walk to the game. I don't have a car. voice 1: I'll drive if you can go. voice 2: Okay, I'll see you at two-forty-five if I can go.
Listen to the dialog again.

Number 2, "How will Roger get to the game?" The answer is: His friend will drive if he can go. Repeat: His friend will drive if he can go.
And, Number 3, "What time will they meet?" The answer is: If Roger can go, he'll meet his friend at 2:45. Repeat: If Roger can go, he'll meet his friend at 2:45.
(7) Now listen to this dialog. Take notes and be ready to answer the questions. (pause 15 sec after each dialog)

If I don't finish tonight, I won't be able to leave at seven-thirty tomorrow morning. voice 1: Could you buy something for my kids if I give you the money? voice 2: You may not have to give me any money if the things are cheap, Pete. voice 1: That's great! Okay. Tell me if I owe you any money. voice 2: Sure, no problem.
Now listen to the dialog again.

(11) Listen to the last dialog. Do the same thing. Take notes, and be ready to answer the questions. (pause 15 sec after each dialog)

(15) Look at Figure 2. You will hear a paragraph. Listen for the numbers. Write the numbers as you hear them.
My brother was born in 1947. He has spent the last fifteen years in the United States Navy. Three years of that time have been spent in Japan, four years in Guam, and three years in Spain. He will be in the Navy for five more years. After that, he'll probably spend twenty more years in another job.
