Joe: Aren't you eating anything? Harry cooked all this food for the party.

Paul: I know.

Harry: Hi, Paul. Get some food. I made it all and lots of it!

Paul: Thanks, but I'm not hungry right now. I ate a big dinner at my parents' house tonight.


Harry: Well, maybe you'll want some dessert later. Excuse me, please. I'm going to go over and talk to Bill and Linda.

Joe: You didn't have dinner with your parents. We were playing football until 45 minutes ago.

Paul: I know. I didn't want to lie, but Harry's a terrible cook. I got sick the last time I ate his food. I just told him that little white lie because I didn't want to hurt his feelings.

Joe: Oh. Yes, sometimes a lie--not a big one--just a little white lie seems like the best thing to do. To tell you the truth, I don't care for his cooking either. But, he was standing right next to me and I had to take some!

Lou: But you really liked the music? I thought it was too loud. It hurt my ears.

Sam: Well, I thought the music was the best part of the movie. I want to buy the music tape of this movie. I really enjoyed the music.

A suffix is a letter or group of letters added to the end of a word. Many adverbs are formed by adding the suffix ly to the adjective. *Notice the spelling change when the adjective ends in y.
